Hypothyroidism mainly affects women over 50 years of age, and the symptoms can be very mild. If you believe you may have this condition, a doctor can take a thorough medical history and do a physical examination, especially looking for a larger than normal thyroid gland in the neck.
A swollen thyroid gland is a sign of Hashimoto’s disease, the most common cause of Hypothyroidism.
